Rosetta Mae Shaffer, 94, of Sandoval passed away peacefully Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Helia Healthcare in Salem. She was born on September 26, 1930, the daughter of Fred Paul and Marcilla Mae (Quinlan) Wilkins in Harvey, IL. She married Raymond L. Shaffer on February 28, 1948, in Salem, IL and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1995.
Survivors who will hold dear memories of Rosetta include her children, Donald Sr. and Carolyn Shaffer of Odin, Larry Sr. and Karen Shaffer of Shattuc, and Cindy and Charles “Chuck” Newcomb of Salem; grandchildren, Tosha and Mike McHenry, Larry Shaffer Jr., Donnie Jr. and Ronica Shaffer, Jason and Chrystal Shaffer, Jill and Cary Hercules, Julie Shaffer, Brandon Miller, Breann Miller, Bryan Bonvicino, Brittany Miller and fiancé Draven; great-grandchildren, Travis Shaffer, Lucas Shaffer, Levi McHenry, Brandie McHenry, Ethan Gramlick, Abby Shaffer, Dakota Shaffer, Brett Shaffer, Caden Shaffer, Jordan Shaffer, Jacob Shaffer, Jaden Shaffer, Tristen Hercules, Myles Hercules, Hailey Miller, Jacob Miller, Caden Hutchings, Baylee Patten, Brenton Miller, Emma Patten; great-great-grandchildren, Colt, Hunter, Prestley, Gazell, Simon, Tripp, Alalynn, Kayson, and Mason; brother, Paul Wilkins of Salem; daughter-in-law, Mary Shaffer of Sandoval and nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Along with her husband, Raymond Shaffer, Rosetta was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruby Paulton, and Alta Marie Wilkerson; brothers, Darin Dale Wilkins, Joseph Wilkins Jr., and Paul Eugene Wilkins II; sons, Danie Lee “Boonie” Shaffer, and Mike Shaffer; granddaughter, Kimberly Rae Shaffer; and sister-in-law, Delores Wilkins.
Rosetta was a lady of great faith and a member of the First General Baptist Church in Centralia. Raising her family in Sandoval, she was proud to provide a warm, welcoming place for her family to call home. Rosetta was an amazing cook, and everyone loved gathering around her table for one of her delicious homemade meals. She worked outside the home at Flemmings Dry Cleaners in Centralia, where her hard work ethic was greatly appreciated. Rosetta was creative and extremely talented, enjoying quiet time creating pieces to gift to others while sewing, crocheting, knitting and quilting. She was an accomplished woodworker and liked restore furniture pieces back to their original beauty. Rosetta was gentle, kind, generous, was the backbone of her family and will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Pastor Bryan Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Sandoval Day Macz Funeral Home and an hour before her service on Sunday. Memorials may be made in Rosetta’s honor to First General Baptist Church.
