Susie Dodson

Susie Dodson, 93, of Centralia, Illinois passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022. She was born on July 25, 1929, the daughter of Edger and Leola  Miller in Walnut Hill, Illinois. She married John Raymond Dodson on March 17, 1947, in Mayfield, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on April 10, 2020.

Survivors include her beloved family, her sons, Mike Dodson and wife Linda of Walnut Hill, Illinois, and Jerry Dodson of Rushville, Illinois; grandchildren, Mike Dodson and wife Brenda of Iuka, Illinois, Valerie Atchison of Centralia, Illinois, Jared Dodson and wife Kris of Florida, Casey Dodson and wife Brittany of Centralia, Illinois, Douglas Dodson of Centralia, Illinois, and Ginger Metheney and husband Jimmy of Cape Coral, Florida; daughter-in-law, Donna Dodson of Centralia; 15 precious great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Susie was preceded in death by both her parents; her sisters Maxine Miller, and Helen Nelson; her brother Lee Miller; her daughter, Glenna Atchison; and her sons, Doug Dodson, Terry Dodson, and Roger Dodson.

Susie was a great help to her husband Raymond on their family’s farm. Raising six children, she loved being a Mom and provided an inviting, comfortable home for her family to grow up in. Susie was an amazing cook, and her family shared many wonderful memories while gathering around her table. She was a proud Grandma who liked to be a part of her grandchildren’s lives, lovingly supporting them. Susie was a kind, gentle, true lady who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. Interment will follow at the Little Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Dix. Relatives and friends are welcome to a visitation time from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Susie’s honor to Little Grove Christian Church.
