Sylvester Kachuba Jr., 66, of Irvington passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024, surrounded by family at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis Missouri. He was born on March 11, 1958, the son of Sylvester Kachuba Sr. and Delores (Barczewski) Kachuba in Centralia.

Survivors include the love of his life, Ann Dobyns; his mother, Delores Kachuba; siblings, Connie Zapp and husband Gary of New Minden, Patty Boester and husband Dean of New Minden, Debbie Barger of Hoffman, Clarence Kachuba and wife Cindy of Greenville, Sandy Suchomski and husband Wayne of Pinckneyville, Gary Kachuba and special friend Jane of Evansville, Indiana, Barbie Kachuba of Nashville, Fred Kachuba and wife Diane of Nashville, Bob Kachuba and wife Kim of Carlyle, Michelle Blumhorst and special friend Chris of Breese, and Stephanie Kachuba and fiancé Ronnie of Hoyleton; stepchildren, Randy Dobyns and wife Kara of Kell, and Sheri Hesse and husband David of Irvington; 9 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Sylvester was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Kachuba Sr.; stepson, Ricky Dobyns; and brother-in-law, Don Barger.

Sylvester was a hard worker and loyal employee of Kuhl Lumber where he was a foreman who didn’t miss any important detail of his job. He was a true outdoorsman, taking to tasks outside anytime he could. Fishing from the bank was one of his favorite past-times and he was known to catch a mess of fish in record time. Sylvester was an avid deer hunter and liked the peace found while camping at Washington County Lake. He had a green thumb and grew huge vegetable gardens, making sure to share his harvest with everyone. He also grew beautiful roses and tulips for his sweetheart, Ann.  Sylvester was a grill master who liked to grill up the perfect meal for family and friends. He was a loving, “PaPa” for his grandchildren, wanting only the best for each one of them. Sylvester was a man of his word, generous, loving and kind. He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
