Velma Parrish Obituary

Velma Mae Parrish, 84, of Odin, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at her home in Odin surrounded by her loving family. Velma being one of ten siblings was born on August 20,1939 the daughter of Cecil and Thelma (Mikel) Adams in Springfield, IL. She married the love of her life and father of her children, William A. Parrish and he precedes her in death.

Survivors include her devoted family, Cecil Parrish and wife Cathy of Salem, Bruce Parrish and wife Debbie of Odin, William Parrish and wife Debbie of Odin, Brenda Hodge and husband Willis Jr. of Odin, Vickie Parrish of Odin, Robert Parrish and wife Deborah of Iuka; 18 treasured grandchildren; 36 precious great-grandchildren; dear siblings, Jack Adams and wife Paula of West Virginia, Margaret Stade of Edenburg, IL, Betty Ent and husband Jim of Springfield; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Velma was preceded in death by both her parents, Cecil and Thelma Adams; husband, William Parrish; siblings, Dorothy Adams, Lois Rank, Charles Adams, Ralph Adams, Kenneth Adams, Paul Adams, and Mike Adams; and great-grandson Kalib Paschal

Velma was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Odin where she had enjoyed her church family.  She was a natural caregiver and was prideful of her loyalty to Odin Health and Rehab Center. Velma was a talented seamstress and liked to embroider. She raised and valued watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow-up. She knew what a blessing it was to have her family so close. Velma’s biggest joy was spending time with her family. 

A celebration of life service will be held at noon Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Odin, with Brother Claude Howell officiating. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to visiting hours at the Church from 10:00A.M. till time of funeral services. Memorials may be made in Velma ’s honor to the Bethel Baptist Church.
