Walter “Walt” W. Geiger, Jr.

Walter “Walt” W. Geiger, Jr., of rural Sandoval passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family. Walt was born on April 29, 1936, the son of Walter W., Sr.  and Nellie G. (Webber) Geiger. He married Jane E. Souders on November 9, 1957, at the Demaree United Methodist Church in Centralia and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2015.

Walt is survived by, daughters, Tanya Bundy of Centralia, & Pat Williams of Sandoval; son, Tim (Barb) Geiger of Tomball, Texas; eight grandchildren, Leah Williams, Rachel (Tyson) Hanks, Ryan (Becca) Bundy, Sarah Anderson, Kristen Meskil, Amanda Geiger, Jessica Geiger, and Adam Geiger; seven great-grandchildren, Matthias, Gracelyn, Ava, Mabrey, Morgan, Lilly, and Scarlett; brothers-in-law, Harold “Hal” Craig and Rev. Robert “Bob” (Beverly) Souders; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Geiger was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane Geiger; son-in-law, Sam bundy; sister, Dorothea Craig; great-granddaughter, Audrey Bundy; brother-in-law, George (Jennie) Souders; and sister-in-law, Mary (Jim) Cook.

Walt worked as a welder for Illinois Central Railroad, before farming full-time. He also drove a school bus and later became the owner, operator of Geiger Bus Service for Sandoval School District 501. Walt loved working outdoors, grain farming, and raising cattle and horses. He enjoyed riding and breaking horses to ride.  He encouraged others to ride horses and help them ride with confidence. He was a friend to everyone and was always willing to lend a hand. Walt was a member of Sandoval United Methodist Church. He had a strong Christian faith, thanking and praising God in all circumstances. 

Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval is privileged to be assisting the family of Walt Geiger with arrangements. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Sandoval with Rev. Robert Souders officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval. Friends are welcome to a visitation time to offer condolences to the family on Monday, July 12, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sandoval. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Walt’s honor to Sandoval Fire Department, Sandoval Methodist Church (Shalom Food Ministries), or the Donor’s choice.
